The History of EHM
Escuela Hispana Montessori (EHM) serves and teaches the histories, texts, values, beliefs, and perspectives of people from different cultural backgrounds in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan. Our enriching programs began as a Montessori but has evolved since 2016 Early Learn and since prescribed to the Creative Curriculum. We utilize many educational theorists and philosophers to embrace how we look at and value learning and child development. EHM's main objective is to educate the “whole child," meaning that we attend to physical and emotional, as well as cognitive, growth. Since children learn best by performing tasks associated with learning, creative and hands-on strength-based activities have gained importance in our creative curriculum. Our children are encouraged toward experimentation and independent thinking. Major Child Developmental Theorists we embrace are John Dewey, Erik Erikson, Arnold Gesell, Urie Bronfenbrenner, Jean Piaget, Maria Montessori, Howard Gardner, Lev Vygotsky, B. F. Skinner, and Albert Bandura.
